AVID Student Tutor Awards
Celebrate Student Achievement

The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program is designed to help students develop college and career readiness through rigorous coursework, critical thinking, and collaboration. One key component of AVID is the Tutorology program, which trains students to become peer tutors, reinforcing academic skills and fostering a strong learning community. The recent AVID Student Tutor Awards ceremony recognized students who successfully completed the training to become AVID student tutors, a milestone that highlights their dedication to supporting their peers.
Ms. Liufau, Patch Middle School AVID teacher, Ms. Buffamonte, an AVID tutor, and the AVID District Instructional Specialist, Ebony Luper, were all thrilled to celebrate the students’ hard work and achievement. Through Tutorology, these students learned how to facilitate Socratic questioning, guide collaborative study groups, and help their classmates develop problem-solving skills. The program not only strengthens students’ academic confidence but also nurtures leadership and communication skills, making these tutors valuable assets to their school communities.
Becoming an AVID student tutor is more than just assisting with coursework; it is about fostering a culture of inquiry, collaboration, and perseverance. By earning this distinction, these students have demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence and peer support. As they continue in their roles, they will play a vital part in empowering their classmates to take ownership of their learning, ultimately preparing them for success in high school, college, and beyond.
