Greetings Patch MS Families!

Welcome back! I hope our students and families had a restful and enjoyable break. As we return to school, we are taking time to reset expectations, revisit routines, and refocus on what it means to be responsible, respectful, and engaged members of our school community.

I want to take a moment to celebrate our students. They have done an outstanding job this year, and we are incredibly proud of the growth we’ve seen academically, socially, and behaviorally. From increased confidence in the classroom to stronger collaboration and problem-solving skills, our students continue to rise to expectations and show perseverance every day.

As we head into the final week of the quarter, this is an important opportunity for students to finish strong, reflect on their progress, and demonstrate their learning. Our staff is committed to supporting students with clear expectations, encouragement, and high standards as we close out the semester.

We are also looking ahead with excitement to Semester 2 and the opportunities it brings for continued growth and success. We value our partnership with families and look forward to working closely with students as we begin this next chapter together.

Please be sure to check the Dates to Remember for upcoming events, important dates, and opportunities to get involved.

Thank you for your continued support, and welcome back!

Warm regards,
Mrs. Gamble and Mr. Myrga

Aspen vs. Google Classroom: Where to Find Official Grades

At Patch Middle School, both Aspen and Google Classroom play important roles in keeping families informed, but each serves a different purpose. Understanding the difference helps parents and students stay on top of learning and grading.

Aspen – The Official Gradebook
Aspen is the only official record of student grades. Final assignment grades and overall course grades are entered and maintained in Aspen. When you want to know a student’s current standing in a class, always check Aspen first—these grades are the ones that count toward report cards and transcripts.

Google Classroom – The Learning Platform
Google Classroom is where teachers share assignment details, instructions, resources, and—when appropriate—provide a place for students to submit work digitally. While teachers may post feedback and scores in Google Classroom, these numbers are intended for communication and guidance only. They do not represent official grades.

Key Takeaway
Think of Aspen as the gradebook and Google Classroom as the classroom workspace. Both are important, but only Aspen contains the grades that appear on report cards.

Please take note of these important reminders:

Student Absences
We kindly ask that you do not call to report absences. Please email all absence notifications to patchms.attendance@dodea.edu.
