Patch Middle School’s AVID students recently had the unique opportunity to participate in a book tasting, an event led by our talented media specialist, Sammi Wright. This engaging experience allowed students to explore a wide variety of books in an interactive and fun way, cultivating their love for reading while sharpening their critical thinking skills. Just like tasting a variety of dishes, the book tasting invited students to "sample" different genres and authors, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to branch out beyond their usual reading preferences.

The event was more than just flipping through pages; it was an opportunity for AVID students to practice reflection and inquiry. As they "tasted" each book, they took notes on their impressions, made predictions, and asked questions about what they might learn from each story. Sammi Wright guided students in making connections between the texts and their own lives, helping them understand the importance of being purposeful in their reading choices. By the end of the tasting, students had a new sense of excitement about the books they could explore, and many left with a fresh reading list. This event not only deepened their love for reading but also showcased how the AVID program fosters skills in organization, inquiry, and reflection, all while creating a fun and supportive learning environment.
