AVID Students Exemplify Readiness and Rigor

Patch Middle School’s AVID students continue to set a high standard for academic excellence, demonstrating what it means to engage deeply, think critically, and prepare intentionally for their futures. In AVID classrooms, rigor isn’t just a goal—it’s a daily practice. Students are learning how to give and receive meaningful feedback, take organized and purposeful notes, and master the art of academic discussion through Philosophical Chairs and Socratic Seminars. These structures push students to listen actively, defend their thinking, and respectfully challenge ideas, building the communication and reasoning skills they will need in high school, college, and beyond.

Each week, AVID students participate in tutorials designed to help them tackle their most challenging curricular content. By collaborating with peers, asking higher-level questions, and working through complex problems, students learn to embrace struggle as part of the learning process. They recognize opportunities for improvement and seize them with determination—an essential mindset for future success. Across the curriculum, WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) are evident in their work as AVID scholars lead by example. Through college-prep activities, goal setting, and reflective practices, Patch MS AVID students are building the habits, skills, and confidence needed to thrive in any academic setting. We are proud of their commitment and the leadership they bring to our school community.
